Horror 102: Werewolf Horror

Directed by the homie Wes Craven, Cursed (2005) is a movie about siblings Ellie (Christina Ricci) and Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg) who get into a car accident and are injured by a large animal.  They start to exhibit wolfish tendencies by being attracted to the smell of blood, eating raw meat, and being agile and able to move quickly.  They realize that they were attacked by a werewolf, and other women are being ruthlessly murdered by it as well.

Ellie is dating a man named Jake and he eventually owns up to being a werewolf but claims that it is not him slaughtering other women.  The audience learns that all of the women who have been killed by the werewolf were romantically linked to Jake in some way, which puts Ellie in grave danger.  Turns out that the werewolf was a woman named Joanie (Judy Greer) who had a one-night stand with Jake and was killing his other lovers out of revenge, rage and jealousy.

Jake ultimately reveals that he was the one who attacked Ellie and Jimmy because he wanted Ellie as his mate and plans to get rid of Jimmy because there can only be one alpha male.  Ellie (who at the beginning of the movie was questioning their relationship; she was in love with Jake but wasn’t sure if he loved her in return) says no ma’am and kills him with a shovel, breaking the curse over her and Jimmy.

I love this movie and I feel like Ellie made a poor choice.  I wanted her and Jake to be together as werewolves because I much prefer that outcome as opposed to the one that the movie gave me and this should come as no surprise to anyone reading this post.

  3. I'm not doing NaNoWriMo. My Muse doesn't work that way, and this new job got me busier than a one-armed paperhanger. But there are new creative ideas on the horizon...more on that later.
