Musings in the Dark: Hip-Hop History

Hip-Hop History

One day, a few months ago, I was scrolling my FB feed and one of my friends dropped this on my timeline.

Man, I watched this video a good nine or ten times.  It slaps so damn hard.  The musical selections are awesome and the arrangement and transitions are all the way on point.  I think my favorite part of the sequence is the intro to Kanye West's "Flashing Lights," and I nearly died with joy when Sisqo's "Thong Song" made its way into the mix.  Never ever expected to hear that in an orchestra.  Regardless, the whole encore is straight fire.

The conductor's name is Radzimir Debski, but his alter ego is named Jimek and in addition to being cute as hell, he's clearly a fan of hip hop.  So much so that he dropped another encore a few years later.

It is amazing hearing hip hop classics in orchestral form.  The musicians are extremely talented.  I would LOVE to attend one of Jimek's concerts and hear this being played.  In Volume 2, Jimek's rendition of "Big Poppa" sent me and I'm ready for him to find a way to give us all of these jams on a CD or something that I can pay him for and listen to over and over again.  I mean...take my moneyPlease.

As a result of this, I found myself listening to some of Jimek's own work and wow...!  Baby's got skills.  Check out "Crux" if you think I'm lying.  That ending is blazing hot!!

Long story short, Jimek's got a new fan.  I'm sure I won't be the last.
