Musings in the Dark: Year End Wrap-Up

Year End Wrap-Up

-->

Well, it’s been about 2 full months since I last posted.  Not much has changed.  I’m still overworked and underpaid, and still longing for the Muse to pay me a visit. 2018 wasn’t a bad year.  I got to travel with my bestie to Las Vegas over the summer and we had a BLAST!!!  I did get to spend two weeks in Italy for Christmas and I had such a good time.  I love that country.  Every region is distinctive and it’s somewhat stressful trying to pick which region I want to retire to when it’s time to hang up education.  Good thing I have plenty of time to decide.

I never make resolutions because I don’t keep them.  I’ve got two goals I want to meet in 2019: start investing and publish a new novel by Halloween.  These are reasonable and doable.  I have set aside a day and block of time that I’m going to spend writing, be it blogging, writing fanfic or a shortie, or working on a novel.  Said time will be Sundays, 3 to 6 p.m.

I think it will help me to make a list of the topics I want to blog about so I don’t sit around lollygagging when I should be writing about: (1) current movies, (2) issues affecting sistahs, (3) my natural hair journey, (4) life in Indonesia (not that it’s poppin or anything like that), and (5) anything current-event related that I’m interested in.

As far as stories? I’m in the process of world-building for a new shortie.  Kinda like in the vein of Stephen King’s Castle Rock.  The idea came to me a while back after writing Zodiac, but it wasn’t until last fall I decided to make it an official city for my original characters.  I fiddle with it at times; there is the beginning of a dramatis personae, city maps and districting, photos of actual cities that I’m using as a model, residences, jobs, etc.  But I haven’t started working on the actual story.  I’m stuck on how it starts.  Typical writer’s block.

I’m not about to sit up here and say “2019 is gonna be my year.”  Ever since 2008, I’ve had some really good years.  Things fell into place to deliver me to where I am.  I do hope for good things to happen for and to me (and to my loved ones) this year.  My travel goals include NYC during the summer and Austrailia/NZ for Xmas.

May 2019 be good to us all.  Happy New Year!!
